Iryna Hauska's sculptures capture human bodies in moments of transformation, blending themes of metamorphosis, heritage, and layering. Based in Sweden, outside Stockholm, she uses recycled materials such as yarn, papier-mâché, plaster, and second-hand tights to explore the layers of life. Iryna meticulously shapes muscles and limbs to follow the natural grain of the textile, with works that take weeks and months to complete.
Her intricate, lifelike sculptures feature bubbles, soft forms, and hand-crocheted textures, often referencing her own and others' experiences in confronting vulnerability amidst personal, environmental, and political change. By focusing on older, more mystical ways of seeing the world, Iryna hints at the edges of consciousness and deeper levels of awareness.
