Summertime

Summer is nice, because it’s warm.

Summer is nice, because there are nice smells.

You can wear pretty clothes in summer.

You can lie on the rocks and bathe in the sun and get mushy by it.

You can play outside.

In summer you can drink beer at the terrace.

You can be outside with friends.

If you have a cabin then you can be at the cabin, but if you don’t then it’s sad, because it’s nice to go out to the peace and calm of nature – although you can go either way, but it’s a bit different. It’s nice in the summer if you don’t have work and have some kind of summer place, and it’s pretty nice actually to get out of the city and like away from everything a little bit.

Everything is completely saturated with colours and shapes and flowers and light.

People are happy, and the streets are full of people, and when the heat waves start then it’s like you snap your fingers and suddenly there are people everywhere, and everyone’s in a good mood, and the people even look summery.

I feel like I’m a flower that’s on view.

The sun grabs my face and the sunscreen makes this beautiful glow on my face. It’s the best if I’ve been swimming, and the wind has blown the hair dry, and there’s a little bit of tanning, and the sunscreen glow on the face, and also summer clothes are like it’s nice maybe to wear a bit tinier clothes once you get used to them and find good ones, and also shoes are the kind that you can just slip on.

Light brings out depth and complexity in all the surfaces.

The sounds are wonderful, if you go out and listen, the birds are singing like crazy, and that’s not annoying at all, the drone of the lawnmower sounds nice and the smell of cut grass.

It’s better that there is something rather than nothing.

In summer it’s nice in the city, but at the countryside as well.

In Finland it’s crazy how nature and the society holds it all in all year, and summer is one huge burst when everything comes out all at once.

It’s pretty intensive when the birds sing through the night, and lights don’t go out at all when the sun shines even in the night.

Summercamp vibes are nice. At festivals and maybe if you’re like volunteering, there’s a nice time window and a bubble of hanging out, you go back to childhood or when you were a teenager, you just hang out intensively from morning to night. You go to this special magical atmosphere.

Even if you’re at work, it doesn’t feel so much like you’re at work, and when you get home from work it feels like it’s noon, and the day is just starting.

I do love summer.

The late summer is lovely when the nights are getting dark, and maybe it’s lovely that fall is coming, but also melancholy for the long winter is coming, but the late summer evenings are magical too whereas early summer is magical because it’s this flower fireworks where every week there’s some new kind of flower blooming and the smells and the freshness.

The late summer evening sun on birch leaves is like a golden sea of jewelry.

Eating ice cream is fun and it feels like you can eat an ice cream every day and that makes you feel better.
